Centre for Inflammation Research

Biofilms research being conducted at the Edinburgh Medical School.

Based within the Translational Healthcare Technology (THT) group in the Centre for Inflammation Research (CIR) the team are working to develop point-of-care diagnostic and treatment strategies for infection, including biofilm – developing novel chemistries (optical and photodynamic therapy SmartProbes) and devices (for detection and PDT treatment) from bench to bedside. Targets include Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in the ICU and skin/soft tissue/corneal infections at the point-of-care in low-resource settings.
